The Results Are In

When I made this poll I did it in a slight rush. In my haste I had forgotten a few key fears like clowns for one. Special thanks to Grizzly Mountain Arts for bringing that to my attention. That was a big oops on my part.

Also if you haven't read the comments under the Tobias "P-P-P-Poll" post, pollyannacowgirl brought up an interesting fear (as did a few others). She actually has a fear of barfing! How terrifying to have a fear like that so readily available. As if catching the flu or suffering a bad hangover weren't enough on their own!

White or No?

A Countless amount of threads have been started in the Etsy forums regarding background choices. The question presented, Is it better to have a white background or a coloured one?

A white background gets you a chance to be on the front page, certainly not a guarantee. It also requires extra editing and a possibility of the said "sterile" feel.

The backgrounds in my Etsy photos have always been something I've struggled with. I started with stark white and only this month have decided to scrap that and try the coloured backgrounds. The result?

Well, I still have no idea which way is the better. Its hard to judge visually from my standpoint but one thing I can tell you with 100% certainty, there was no sporadic jump in sales...

Shes a Looker

I was cruising some of the dark art on Etsy when I came across this anatomy doll in kerrykate's shop. It, along with 100's of others, have been entirely designed and handmade by Kerry Kate herself. (der, it is Etsy afterall)

She also makes bags, pillows and sells prints of her paintings online. My first thought (and probably yours to) is that this would make the most perfect voodoo doll!

...that is if you could bring yourself to poke holes in this lovely piece of art.

Either way its a pretty rad doll and I felt the need to share :)

Jawbreakers and Lollis and Nerds? Oh My!

I'm not all hearts, brains and bones. I have other interests and one of them is sugar. Its not exactly a hobbie but it makes for some mouth watering accessories. All these pictures are items in (or about to be in) my beatblack shop.

Now I can finally tell everyone I have a candy shop! ...without lying

Most of you have probably already recognized this Dark Angel from her photo but for those of you who are unfamiliar with her portfolio, say hello to Miss Bettie Page.

She was a model who became famous in the 1950's for her fetish and pin up photography. Page even did her her own make up, hair and created her own attire for her pin ups. Now thats crafty. Only 10 years after her career began she decided to end it, though she was still in demand. Many factors contributed to this decision, including stalking incidents, but theres not a photo taken that shes ever regretted.

So far Bettie has been married and divorced a whooping three times during her life and although she now lives in a seniors home, don't count her out just yet. She may be in her mid 80's but shes still a gorgeous lady!

Her classy style is just one of the reasons her image keeps coming back as a trend time and time again. Her cult following is responsible for such necklaces as this one from HushHush's Etsy shop.

Her shop features wooden boxes that have been transformed into attractive, ultra unique pieces. All are sold for more than affordable prices, so if your in a shopping mood you could be her first Etsy sale for less than 10 dollars!

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice

Todays theme is.... Stripes. These Etsy sellers were chosen for their remarkably unique way of using black and white lines to create radical-ness. Kudos

Today on the way home from the grocery store I shared a cookie with a squirrel named rabies. She had a leaf in her mouth before I met her so maybe she was creating insulation for a nest. I like small furry things...

"Strange Unearthly Creature"

Sorry to say it but this beautiful pendant has already been sold many months ago. I keep seeing it in my favorites and don't have the heart to x it. dolldisasterdesign.etsy.com doesn't seem to be making them anymore for whatever reason but she has other odd items up for grabs.

I just can't seem to get over this one piece. I only wish I had thought up the creative idea behind it and made it first. I was just posting it in hopes it inspires you the way it has been inspiring myself :)

P-P-P-Poll to Take Below

I'd like to do more phobia posts in the near future which means I need to know what scares you the most. Insects, Rodents and Reptiles are the more obvious choices but is there anything odd that just scares the muck out of you for no good reason?

I invite you all to take the poll to the right(and possibly a scroll or two down). It will determine the subject of the next phobia post and help feed my curiosity :)

Here's a few of the more "say wha?" ones:

Asymmetriphobia- Fear of asymmetrical things
Bibliophobia- Fear of books
Chirophobia- Fear of hands
Dendrophobia- Fear of trees
Ereuthrophobia- Fear of blushing
Francophobia- Fear of France or French culture
Geniophobia- Fear of chins
Hydrophobia- Fear of water or of rabies
Ichthyophobia- Fear of fish (guilty)
Japanophobia- Fear of Japanese
Kathisophobia- Fear of sitting down
Linonophobia- Fear of string
Microphobia- Fear of small things
Nudophobia- Fear of nudity
Octophobia - Fear of the figure 8
Proctophobia- Fear of rectums
Q-no Q available... seriously?
Radiophobia- Fear of radiation, x-rays
Selaphobia- Fear of light flashes
Textophobia- Fear of certain fabrics
Urophobia- Fear of urine or urinating
Vestiphobia- Fear of clothing
Wiccaphobia: Fear of witches and witchcraft
Xanthophobia- Fear of the color yellow or the word yellow
Y-no Y either, psh
Zelophobia- Fear of jealousy

I don't make this stuff up folks! I didn't need to, it was already strange.

There are many stranger than strange movies out there. The real whacked out ones can introduce us to the bizarre fetishes of a handful of people while the more tame ones just make us think outside of the box. Feed is by no means a great movie but it is one of those kinds that makes you get all giddy when you first hear about it.(if your slightly morbid)

I was told it was a movie about people who eat each other. Needless to say, I was ready to watch it immediately! Its actually about the fetish of fat erotica which in this case brought feeders (fat adoring fans) and gainers (the obese) together in a sick twisted way. The story is centered around an investigator with a hunch and less than ample support to expand upon it. On his own he struggles to find a way to prove that a case of feeding is much more than just a fetish and instead may be murder. And yes, people do eat people in this movie so its not for everyone.

The villain is played by Australian actor Alex O'Loughlin which some of you may already know from a certain vampire show. Yes Yes

Movie Reviews are just the newest addition to this blog. Every month a new weird or just plain rad movie will be introduced. If you know of any weirdies feel free to let us all know

It's A Bird By The Way...

This picture to the right is only 1 in a series of 6 "Specimens" photographs taken by Nancy Rose currently available in her Etsy shop at nancyrose.etsy.com

Shes a full time graphic designer and a self taught photographer who also lives in the same city as I do. (Shout Out to all my Toronto peeps!)

I have never seen photos like these before and I wanted to show her off before anyone else got the chance do it first :)

I'm sure you'll find it as easy as I did to want all of her listings after seeing them displayed together in their sets.

Better Than Bacon?

Today is the first of the month which means its time for a new featured seller! This month topsyturvydesign takes the honor for her unique and ultra creative hats. Her name is Kim Brown-Dye and visiting her shop is like walking through a gallery. Every picture is eye catching, shes an instant favorite.

I even caught myself looking through her sold items just to see more pictures.
STUNNING!
